ANGIER “AJ” Johnson-Foster

A Retired Public Relations Professional, On-Air Radio/Voice Talent, and Influencer, Angier Johnson-Foster can be described as a radio veteran and connoisseur of gospel music!  With over 30 years of broadcasting in Montgomery’s River Region, she maintains her radio presence on two radio frequencies, WVAS-FM 90.7 and WMGY Praise 96.5, as the midday talent, “AJ In the Midday” in the Gospel Café.  She serves as the music director responsible for reviewing and selecting music for airplay. She is a sought-after influencer who frequents independent artists’ review panels and submits playlists for a gospel airplay chart.

Angier chuckles at her introduction to the gospel genre. As a little girl, she often hid in her great-grandmother’s bedroom, listening to her vintage recordings. Covered with dust, these 78 rpm recordings were boxed and put away to keep them from being broken.  These recordings predated downloads, CDs, cassettes, and albums.  Back then, the plastic the recordings were made from was so fragile that if you blew on them too hard, they would break, and many of them Angier did! That nosey little girl found jewels like The Soul Stirrers, The Mighty Clouds, Mahalia Jackson, The Clara Ward Singers, Staple Singers, etc., and her life was changed forever. The ones she didn’t break were salvaged, and she listened to them for countless hours.

Away from the airwaves, Johnson-Foster is now enjoying retirement after 32 years of State Government service. She retired in 2020 as the Public Information Manager with the Alabama Public Service Commission, just weeks after marrying her husband and the love of her life, Levis Foster. The couple has a blended family of three children and three grandchildren. This busy lady enjoys family, traveling, scenic walks, shopping, and cooking!  Lately, she has been testing her skills with assorted flavored pound cakes but has been cautious not to do too much sampling. So, her culinary skills are constantly being honed on and off the airwaves.

Angier is a Deacon at the United Christian Church – Disciples of Christ. She lends her time to many community service events hosted by her radio stations and her sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. She is an 20-year breast cancer survivor and uses her voice and platform to advocate the benefits of early detection to combat the disease.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Faulkner University and is pursuing a Master of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communications from the University of West Alabama. Her sentiments on life are best captured through a quote by author and inspirational speaker Regina Brett, “Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.”
